MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Anchor Yacht Club

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:05pm. President Paul Jusino introduced Commodore Kevin Coyne who thanked everyone for coming and thanked the members who prepared dinner.

 

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present except 3rd Vice President and Financial Secretary.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present except NJ Legislation.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 28 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were approved as published.

 

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Juice thanked everyone for coming. He mentioned that Mary, the DRYL Queen and he attended many openings over the last few weekends. Juice thanked clubs for their hospitality and thanked Riverside for delaying their ceremony to accommodate people coming from the Bordentown opening. Delaware River Day will be on May 24th at Penn’s Landing. Juice apologized for the length of last month’s meeting, although he felt the information from the guest speaker was important.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – no report.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – no report

Cruise: Bob Grace – 2009 cruise will be July 11 – 17. $50 deposit is required. 15 boat limit. Applications are available. Itinerary and application are on the website. Cruise will end at new location on Friday. Fuel prices are down ($2.50-$3.00/gal range)

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – Doc spoke about the swine flue being another strain of influenza “A” – not particularly lethal – except to small children and some others. Seasonal flus should be just about over, generally around May. Make sure you get your flu shot next year and remember to wash your hands.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – no report.


Pageant: Toni Nespola – Handed out princess packets. Theme: DRYL Beach Party. Will be some changes due to expenses from last year. Raffle tickets will be smaller and there will be less of tem. Prizes will be Boat of Cheer or $300 as the grand prize and second and third prizes will be $100. Raffle tickets are available to clubs. Docking fees will be raised to $35 per boat. Tee shirts and button forms are available. Toni is looking for clubs to donate a burgee to the Pageant Committee to be used as a backdrop at the pageant. First pageant meeting will be on May 17, 2009 at 2pm at Quaker City YC. Commodores and Fleet Captains are required to attend. Second meeting which is the public speaking seminar will be on Wednesday, June 3rd at Pennsylvania YC at 7pm. Preliminary judging at Cannstatters on August 5th. Support princesses with ads in program book. Docking information, tee-shirt and button orders due by July 7th. Applications for 2009 princesses were due at May meeting. If not turned in, please get them to Toni ASAP.

Picnic: Marie Houseworth Venue for picnic has been changed to Pennsylvania YC on Saturday, September 12th. Pennsylvania and Riverwinds will host. Marie thanked West End for their willingness to host the picnic. Committee will meet later in the month to iron out the details and prices.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – Philadelphia Inquirer had an article about NJ boating certificate (required by July 9th). Also noted recent increase in attendance at boating safety classes. Another group offering boating safety classes is AAA. “AAA Boating safety Course” classes will be given on a monthly basis in Hamilton NJ. Call 877-457-0711 for information and reservations.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – Poker Run information next month.

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – Information was distributed about how to ride out a thunderstorm and how to signal for help with visual distress signals.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino/Ben Lewitt – Site is being updated with Opening Days and pictures. Two new links were recently added: (1) “Crossing Over” which commemorates commodores and past commodores of member clubs; and (2) “Our Heroes” for members who have family members serving in the military. The site will provide addresses for you to be able to send care packages to those who are protecting our country. There is another link to Trooper Brown who spoke to us at the last meeting about the boating safety laws. Visit the website to have your questions answered.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – Yearbooks are now in. Juice thanked Denise Leo for a nice job. Denise is still looking for some payments. Denise thanked Bill Garwood and Juice for their help with the yearbook.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – no report.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – Next meeting of PBA-SE will be combined with PBA state meeting at Philadelphia Coast Guard station on May 30th. PBA-SE will be attending Delaware River Day (formerly Safe Boating Day) will be held at Penn’s Landing on Sunday, May 24th from 12-6pm.

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance for April was $14,635.41. Financial secretary reported income of $4,288.00 while Phyllis Blackeby reported disbursements of $8,610.57, resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $10,312.84. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

·         Tom Cranford funeral services are Friday

·         Bill Branchide mentioned a boating course at Delaware River YC

·         Sea Scouts ship 484 will be modeling PFDs at Delaware River Day

·         Happy Hour Opening Day on May 16th at 2:30pm

·         Happy Hour – Riverside VFW will be having a Veterans Memorial Service on May 17th at Beverly Cemetery

·         Wissinoming YC 100th Anniversary/Opening day is June 6th at 3pm

·         Bridesburg Opening Day is May 23rd – 2pm ceremony

·         Delaware River YC Opening Day is May 23rd – 1pm ceremony

·         Quaker City YC Opening Day is May 16th at 12:30pm

·         Quaker City YC Memorial Service for Tim Simpson on June 6th at 2pm. Club is looking for donation or items to raffle off. All proceeds to go the family of Tim Simpson.

·         Bordentown Crabfest is August 22nd from 1-6pm

·         Bordentown Cruise Night is the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6pm

·         DRYL sweatshirts and t-shirts are for sale

·         Yapewi Opening Day is May 23rd at 12pm
